Flood official to address Sacramento's fortress of levees

Next to New Orleans, Sacramento has the greatest flood risk of any major urban area in America. Most residents live below the water level flowing by in the Sacramento and American rivers.

The Sacramento area's director of flood planning will talk about how levees are managed to minimize the risks on Monday, March 11, 4:10 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at 1227 Haring Hall. Timothy Washburn also plans to address the new Central Valley Flood Protection Plan, which calls for expanding the Yolo Bypass and building more setback levees instead of raising existing ones.

The talk is the eighth in the Center's California water policy speaker series, which is open to the public.
