Moyle reflects on Endangered Species Act, native fish
Take a trip to the front lines of the Endangered Species Act in Peter Moyle's latest commentary, "40 years of swimming upstream to save fish", published Dec. 29 in The Sacramento Bee. Moyle recounts his experiences as a UC Davis fish biologist documenting the status of California's native fishes — many of them potential candidates for protection under the act. "Our treatment of native species and their habitats has been rather shabby," he said, but, thanks to the law, "We know better than ever their plight, causes of their decline and potential remedies." Moyle, a co-founder and associate director of the Center for Watershed Sciences, provides a more detailed account in the California WaterBlog.
