Matthew Young named Delta Science Fellow

The state's Delta Stewardship Council and the California Sea Grant has awarded a $96,472 fellowship to Matthew Young, a doctoral student with the Center for Watershed Sciences.

As a Delta Science Fellow, Young plans to investigate whether the Sacramento blackfish, the tule perch and other native fish in the Delta's shallows are in fact dwindling and, if confirmed, the causes of the decline.

Since 2003, the Delta Science Fellows Program has paired graduate students and postdoctoral researchers with Bay-Delta agency scientists and senior research mentors to address pressing science questions of the Bay-Delta system.

Young will be paired with the Center's Peter Moyle, Professor of Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology and Fred Feyrer with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's Bay-Delta Office.
