How to save species in a post-wild California
In his Jan. 6 lecture at UC Davis, the innovative ecologist Michael Rosenzweig made a scientific case for the "reconciliation" approach to species conservation. Rosenzweig's talk -- "Tactics for conserving diversity: global vertebrate patterns point the way" -- was the first in a series of nine lectures and panel discussion scheduled for the winter 2014 seminar "Reconciling Ecosystem & Economy". In his own words, reconciliation ecology "is the science of inventing, establishing and maintaining new habitats to conserve species diversity in places where people live, work and play."
