California Drought: Ray of Hope in Fish-vs.-Farms Dispute

San Francisco Chronicle (March 21, 2014) — A page-one story describes the Center's onging salmon-rearing experiment on Yolo Bypass rice fields as a "ray of hope" in the farms-vs.-fish water dispute amplified in this year's drought. Peter Moyle, a fish biologist and the Center associate director, said "the amount of water it takes to raise salmon is not that much," he said. "In this case, we are just using drain water that would flow back into the river anyway. So we can actually create marsh habitat that wouldn't be there naturally during a drought."
