Reuters joins the salmon-rice project in the field

California conservationists and farmers unit to protect salmon 

Last week, Reuters joined the salmon-rice project in the field to learn how floodplains in the Sacramento River Valley are being used to support endangered fish populations. Approximately 83% of freshwater fishes in California are in decline or already exinct, and available wetland habitat has historically been severely diminished. However we're pleased that California Rice Commission, USDA, Caltrout, researchers Andrew Rypel (CWS Co-Director) and Carson Jeffres (CWS Senior Researcher), and rice farmers have formed a collaboration to save juvenile salmon from extinction.
